I think the only problem with this movie is that everyone has his own thoughts of the world of the Ring. And that's where these movies has really helped me get through some tough times. I have to keep reminding myself that even though the past is gone, I can't let my old life and it's comforts keep me from making the most of the present, and anticipating all of the things that the unknown future has in store for me. But just as change is an unavoidable aspect of life, that doesn't mean we have to, or even should completely abandon the past. It makes us who we are, and we'll always carry a part of it with us wherever we go. I think that's actually the significance of Sam in this scene.
